Former interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus will receive security protection from the Special Security Force (SSF) for one year as a “very very important person” (VVIP).
He was declared a VVIP through a gazette notification issued on 10 February, two days before the 13th national election, reports Prothom Alo.
According to the notification, signed by then secretary to the Chief Adviser’s Office Md Saifullah Panna, the government, exercising its authority under the Special Security Force Act, declared Yunus a VVIP for one year from the date of handing over his responsibilities.
When contacted, Saifullah confirmed the issuance of the notification.
The one-and-a-half-year tenure of the much-discussed interim government ended on 17 February with the formation of a new government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
