A Dhaka court has ordered to send Shah Alam, a former Awami League lawmaker from Pirojpur-2 to jail after he was detained while attending an Iftar organised by Quantum Foundation at the IDEB building in the capital’s Ramna.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque issued the order today (1 March), following a police petition. Defence lawyer Tarikul Islam confirmed the matter.
Earlier, yesterday evening (28 February), Shah Alam was detained by locals at the IDEB building while attempting to attend the Iftar event and was subsequently handed over to police.
Today, Sub-Inspector Nabi Hossain of Ramna Model Police Station applied to keep him in custody under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
