A Dhaka court today (24 February) ordered the seizure of income tax documents of Shafique Ahmed Siddique, husband of Sheikh Rehana, in connection with a case filed over allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Foyez passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed.
Assistant Director Md Ismail Hossain, the investigating officer of the case, filed the application on behalf of the ACC seeking seizure of Shafique’s income tax records.
According to the application, Shafique Siddique allegedly acquired and possessed assets worth Tk8.65 crore beyond his known sources of income.
The ACC said that for proper investigation, it is necessary to examine the accuracy of his declared income and expenditure and to verify whether he owns any additional assets.
The application sought seizure of all relevant records, including permanent and miscellaneous parts of his income tax documents from the 2012-13 to 2023-24 tax years.
On 20 November 2025, the ACC filed the case against Siddique on charges of acquiring illegal wealth worth over Tk8 crore.
According to the First Information Report, assets worth Tk15.32 crore were found in his name during the inquiry, while family and other expenses amounted to Tk2.65 crore.
The total assets, including expenses, stood at Tk17.97 crore. Against this, a legal source of income worth Tk9.32 crore was identified.
Based on the findings, assets worth over Tk8.65 crore beyond known sources of income were alleged. The case was filed under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act-2004.
