State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has called on people to work together to safeguard national independence, uphold freedom and achieve economic emancipation.
She made the call as the chief guest at a discussion marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day 2026 in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur today (7 November).
Nagarkanda upazila BNP organised the discussion at Shaheed Akramunnesa Girls’ High School ground.
Shama Obaed alleged that the Sheikh Hasina government had distorted the history of 7 November during its 17 years in power, presenting a misleading account to students and younger generations.
She stressed the importance of conveying the actual history of the day to the younger generation, particularly students and young people, as well as senior citizens.
She also called for National Revolution and Solidarity Day to be observed on a grand scale in Saltha and Nagarkanda every year.
“7 November gives us a message – that we must work together in the interests of independence, national freedom and economic emancipation,” she said.
Following the discussion, Shama Obaed visited the home of Jubo Dal leader Nazmul Hossain Raju in Jangurdi Paschimpara village under Laskardia union around 6:30pm. She met his bereaved family members and expressed condolences over the death of Raju’s daughter.
Earlier, she had visited the family of army member Md Titas Sheikh, who was killed by gunfire from assailants during an operation against a human trafficking ring in Teknaf.
Titas was the nephew of Habibur Rahman Babul Talukdar, senior vice-president of Nagarkanda upazila BNP and chairman of Laskardia Union Parishad.
BNP leaders and activists from the upazila and municipal units, along with local journalists, were also present during the visits.
After completing her day-long programme, Shama Obaed was scheduled to leave Laskardia union for Banani in Dhaka around 8pm.
