Bangladesh Bank will begin a three-day final selection process tomorrow (8 November) to identify promising young entrepreneurs in Manikganj district for financing under its special “Udyog” programme.
The selection will take place at the central bank’s headquarters through interviews and assessments and continue until Thursday, according to a press release from the Bangladesh Bank assistant spokesperson.
Leading businesspeople, entrepreneurs and corporate executives will serve as evaluators. They include Apex Footwear Managing Director Syed Nasim Manzur, Mohammadi Group Chairperson Rubana Huq, Transcom Group CEO Simin Rahman and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Mahmud Hasan Khan.
Other evaluators include Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Executive President Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, former Standard Chartered Bangladesh CEO Mohammad Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Annonno Group founder Mahmudul Hasan Sohag and Pathao CEO Fahim Ahmed.
The Udyog programme, short for Upazila-Driven Youth Opportunity for Growth, aims to identify promising young entrepreneurs at the grassroots level and provide financing and policy support to help them expand businesses and create jobs.
In its first phase, the programme began entrepreneur selection in eight districts. Applicants from all upazilas of Manikganj will be assessed for final selection and financing.
Following a strong response in the initial eight districts, the central bank opened entrepreneur outreach and applications in the remaining 56 districts on 1 November. The application process will continue until 30 November.
Bangladesh Bank expects the initiative to support new businesses, generate employment and contribute to the country’s economic transformation.
