Customs intelligence officials seized 1,300 jars of Fresh & White Beauty Cream worth an estimated Tk8 lakh from the baggage of a passenger arriving from Dubai at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram this morning (7 November).
The 40kg consignment was seized following a tip-off, according to the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.
Officials took position at the airport and searched the baggage of a passenger identified as Mohammed Jahed, who arrived on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-148 from Dubai.
The creams were recovered after officials scanned and searched his baggage.
According to the directorate, the import of the cosmetics violated the provisions of the applicable Import Policy Order.
It warned that unauthorised cosmetics entering the domestic market could pose risks to public health and said surveillance at the airport would continue to prevent the entry and distribution of such products.
The directorate also said operations against the illegal import of potentially harmful products, including prohibited facial creams, would be intensified.
