Owen Wilson recently reflected on the moment when he was pulled over at the age of just 14.
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine to promote his new partnership with pre-owned vehicle retailer EchoPark Automotive, the 57-year-old American actor and screenwriter revealed that he once took his mother, Laura Wilson’s, car for a joyride, but he had bad luck and got pulled over.
As a new national spokesperson for EchoPark Automotive, Wilson told the outlet, “Before I had my license, in Dallas, my parents were out of town, and we had somebody from my dad’s office staying at the house, keeping an eye on us, and I took out my mom’s car. I think I was maybe 14.”
He added, “Because it was a stick shift, I wasn’t that comfortable with it. I avoided this one road because it had a big hill on it and I didn’t wanna stop at the light on the hill … Unfortunately for us at the time—but maybe fortunately for getting us off the road—we ran into a police officer, and he brought us home.”
“My dad found out, and I didn’t drive again until I got my license,” the Zoolander star quipped, referring to his dad, Robert A. Wilso.
The incident turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Wilson, as he soon made his license after the mischievous act.
“I got my license after that, and I was able to sort of redeem myself in my parents’ eyes. I’m a fairly responsible driver. I was never somebody who was just kind of racing around,” Owen Wilson quipped.
