A woman claiming to be former lawmaker Golam Maula Rony’s wife is reportedly being considered for a senior role in the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) women’s wing, while Rony has publicly denied that they are married.
The woman has been identified in media reports as Farzana Afroz, a former vice-chairman of Satkania upazila in Chattogram. Reports also have suggested that she could be given a senior role in the party’s women’s wing, Jatiya Nari Shakti.
In a Facebook post around 7:30pm yesterday (5 November), Rony shared a photograph of Farzana and wrote: “This woman is not my wife.”
However, The Business Standard could not independently confirm whether she is being considered for the position. Nor could it independently verify her claim of being married to Rony.
