Sarah Drew recently got candid about why she has not yet marked her return to Grey’s Anatomy following her departure.
For those unaware, the 46-year-old American actress and director played the role of Dr. April Kepner in the American medical drama television series for six seasons from 2009 to 2018. She also made a guest appearance in season 17, which aired in 2021, and season 18, which came out in 2022.
While conversing with Us Weekly for an interview, Drew articulated, “I have never closed the door on that opportunity.”
She added, “They’ve invited me back twice [in 2021 and 2022] and I’ve gone back with my heart full, ready to work and excited to be home.”
The Guiding Emily star went on to share that she has not yet received a call to make a comeback on the show. Lately, she has been “very booked and busy” with her roles as Emily Lane in Mistletoe Murders and Hedda Hopper in her new film Jimmy.
Drew and the creators of Grey’s Anatomy have not yet sat down to discuss reuniting professionally. However, “it would be so fun” if it happens.
“I would love to work with that guy again. I love him. We had the best time on that show. We were such good partners. So I would jump at the chance,” she stated, referring to her famous romance with Jackson Avery (played by Jesse Williams).
