Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves have fallen below the $30 billion mark after the country paid $1.64 billion to the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) to settle import liabilities.
Following the payment, the country’s reserves stood at nearly $29.99 billion under the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual, Sixth Edition (BPM6) accounting method.
Before the payment, reserves stood at around $31.51 billion, according to Bangladesh Bank data.
The ACU is a regional payment arrangement established in 1974 to facilitate the settlement of trade-related transactions among its member countries.
