Actress Pori Moni snatched a journalist’s mobile phone and verbally abused journalists while leaving a Dhaka court after securing bail in a case filed over assault, vandalism and intimidation today (5 November).
Meanwhile, bodyguards accompanying the actress allegedly pushed a court visitor, leaving him with a head injury.
The incidents took place at the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court around noon, creating a chaotic situation amid Pori Moni’s appearance.
Pori Moni arrived at the court around 9:30am, a day after an arrest warrant was issued against her. She remained inside her car on the court premises, surrounded by around 11 security guards dressed in black and several others in civilian clothes. The guards were seen restricting people’s movement around the vehicle.
As news of her surrender spread, a large number of journalists gathered at the court premises. At around 11:40am, Pori Moni got out of the car and headed towards the courtroom, surrounded by her bodyguards. The guards pushed journalists who were trying to take photographs and record videos.
While getting into a lift, Pori Moni snatched the mobile phone of Samakal multimedia reporter Robiul Hossain as he was recording her. Robiul later managed to take it back.

Pori Moni appeared before the court of Acting Judge Mahfuzur Rahman of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-1. During the hearing, she moved from the courtroom bench to the dock.
Her lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat Surovi, sought bail on her behalf. After hearing both sides, the court granted her bail against a Tk500 bond.
As she left the court, her bodyguards again pushed journalists attempting to take photographs and videos. Their pushing left a court visitor, Sujan Chandra Moni Das, with a bleeding head injury. He was standing in the corridor at the time.
Sujan’s brother said they had come to the court and were standing there when Pori Moni’s security guards pushed his brother, causing the injury.
Before getting into her car, Pori Moni also approached Samakal multimedia reporter Robiul Hossain aggressively. She was seen verbally abusing journalists before leaving the court premises.
Several journalists also said they had been harassed by her bodyguards.

On 18 March 2024, the investigation officer, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Dhaka District Inspector Md Monir Hossain, submitted a report to the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, finding evidence of allegations of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and her costume designer, Zunaid Baghdadi Jimi, also known as Jim.
However, the report found no evidence against another accused, Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni.
On 26 January 2025, the same court ordered the framing of charges and commencement of the trial.
