Bangladesh wants to deepen economic cooperation with China and attract more Chinese investment, particularly in industrial and infrastructure development, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said today (5 November).
He made the remarks during a meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation led by China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) Chairman Dai Hegen in Mongla, Bagerhat.
The meeting followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Invest Bangladesh and the Chinese state-owned CRCC on economic and infrastructure cooperation, in the presence of the prime minister.
Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh was keen to work jointly with China and emphasised the need to attract more Chinese investment.
He said the government would take initiatives to establish more industries in Mongla to expand economic activities in the region.
To accelerate economic activities from Mongla to the northern parts of the country, the government would move quickly to develop the necessary infrastructure to ensure adequate supplies of electricity and gas, he added.
The prime minister also thanked the Chinese delegation for facilitating the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers by Chinese companies operating in the Middle East.
Describing the day as important, Tarique Rahman expressed gratitude to Chinese investors for supporting Bangladesh’s efforts to build a strong economic foundation.
The MoU between Invest Bangladesh and CRCC is expected to provide a framework for greater cooperation in economic and infrastructure development.
