Prime Minister’s Adviser on Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Mahdi Amin yesterday (4 November) said the Wage Board would determine a unified and fair wage through discussions with workers and employers while maintaining complete neutrality.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a tripartite meeting involving workers, employers and government representatives at the Secretariat tonight. The meeting reviewed the country’s overall labour situation.
Expressing confidence in the Wage Board, Mahdi Amin said the board held its first meeting shortly after its formation, while the date for its second meeting was also announced soon afterwards.
He expressed hope that the minimum wage for garment workers would be announced by the end of December following neutral discussions and deliberations in November and December.
He said the initiative would help protect the interests of workers, the garment industry and the country as a whole.
Highlighting workers’ contribution to the global recognition of “Made in Bangladesh”, the adviser said the country’s achievements in international markets were built on their hard work and dedication.
He added that the elected government, after assuming office with a public mandate, had been working with particular sincerity and commitment to the garment sector.
