A criminal court in Kuwait has sentenced a Bangladeshi expatriate to death for murdering his friend following a dispute over photographs of his wife posted on Facebook.
The Criminal Court convicted the defendant of premeditated murder and handed down the sentence on Tuesday (3 November), reports Gulf News.
Prosecutors said the defendant planned the killing after his friend shared photographs of his wife on Facebook and repeatedly refused to remove them despite being asked to do so.
According to the prosecution, the defendant armed himself with a knife and waited outside a location at their workplace after confirming that the victim was inside.
When the victim emerged, the defendant attacked him, stabbing him several times in the head and body. The injuries proved fatal.
During court proceedings, the defendant admitted to the charges, saying he and the victim had previously been friends.
He told the court that his friend had taken photographs of his wife without permission during an earlier visit and later uploaded them to Facebook.
The defendant said he asked his friend to delete the pictures after offensive comments were posted about his wife. However, the victim allegedly refused and subsequently shared more photographs, worsening the dispute.
The defendant told the court that the incident prompted him to seek revenge, leading him to plan and carry out the killing.
The court found him guilty of intentional and premeditated murder and sentenced him to death, according to Gulf News.
