Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (4 November) said modern agricultural technology is indispensable for sustaining agriculture and significantly increasing productivity in the technology-driven world of the 21st century.
“If farmers survive in an agriculture-dependent Bangladesh, the country will survive,” he said in a message issued today on the occasion of the 14th International Agricultural Technology Fair-2026, scheduled to begin tomorrow (5 November).
The prime minister said the combination of traditional agricultural knowledge and modern technology would not only enhance productivity but also ensure food security while maintaining environmental balance and attract the younger generation to agriculture as entrepreneurs.
Agriculture is one of the main driving forces of Bangladesh’s economy, and its contribution to food security, rural economic development, employment generation and sustainable development is immense, he said.
Tarique Rahman said that transforming agriculture into a modern, technology-based, profitable and climate-resilient sector is one of the government’s key priorities.
He emphasised the importance of bringing modern technology to farmers’ doorsteps, reducing production costs, ensuring fair prices for agricultural products and developing agro-based industries and entrepreneurship.
The 14th International Agricultural Technology Fair-2026 will be held at the International Convention City Bashundhara in the city from 5 to 7 November.
The Rural Development Academy (RDA) of Bogura and Limra Trade Fairs and Exhibitions Private Limited have jointly organised the event.
PM said the fair would help establish effective connections among agricultural researchers, technology innovators, investors, entrepreneurs and farmers, while contributing to new investment, technology transfer and the development of agro-based industries.
He expressed hope that the fair would play an important role in showcasing innovations and exchanging experiences in various agricultural sectors, including modern agricultural machinery, improved seeds, food processing, crop preservation, dairy and poultry production, and renewable energy.
The prime minister and people remained at the centre of the present government’s development vision.
In line with the commitments made in its election manifesto, the government is emphasising agricultural input assistance through the Farmer Card, loans on easy terms, agricultural insurance, and the expansion of storage and marketing facilities for agricultural products, he added.
He further said that initiatives had also been taken to engage the younger generation in modern agricultural technology, technical skills and innovative entrepreneurship to unlock new opportunities in agriculture.
