The Liberation War Museum has suspended a special exhibition commemorating the four national leaders shortly before its scheduled inauguration today (3 November), citing security concerns.
The exhibition, titled Four National Leaders in the Struggle for Independence, was scheduled to open at 4pm at Gallery 6 on the museum’s sixth floor in Agargaon and run until 17 November.
Museum authorities said they had completed preparations for the event but decided to suspend it after police expressed concerns about a possible attack on the premises.
Confirming the matter, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam told The Business Standard that police had asked the museum authorities to suspend the exhibition for security reasons.
“The authorities later decided to postpone it themselves,” the OC added.
The 15-day exhibition was organised in memory of Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain M Mansur Ali and AHM Qamaruzzaman, who played key roles in the 1971 Liberation War by leading the Mujibnagar government in exile that steered the nation towards independence from Pakistan.
Today is Jail Killing Day, marking the assassination of the four national leaders inside Dhaka Central Jail on 3 November 1975. The four leaders were killed nearly three months after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were assassinated on 15 August that year.
