Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government will take steps to reopen closed RMG factories soon.
He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists at the Secretariat this morning (3 November).
The minister said protests might take place at one or two locations during the day, but claimed the demonstrations had little to do with garment workers’ actual demands and grievances, reports Jamuna.
“Certain quarters are instigating these protests to serve their narrow political interests and disrupt garment production. We will deal with this firmly,” he said.
Speaking about the Wage Board, Salahuddin said its work had already begun.
He added that the board would determine the minimum wage based on prevailing economic realities and circumstances.
