In the 13th national parliamentary election, 103-year-old Chan Banu of Louhajang upazila in the Munshiganj-2 (Louhajang-Tongibari) constituency cast her vote after arriving at the polling centre in a traditional palki.
The rare scene was witnessed around noon today (12 February) at a polling centre in Purba Shimulia village of Ward No 9 under Haldia union.
Polling officials said her participation at 103 inspired younger voters.

Unable to walk due to old age, Chan Banu told her family she wanted to exercise her voting rights.
Her relatives then arranged a decorated palanquin and carried her to the centre, drawing curiosity and enthusiasm among voters and locals.
Chan Banu, widow of the late Rahman Sheikh and mother of a former Ward No 9 union parishad member, comes from a politically known family and locals say her eagerness to vote at 103 reflects that awareness.
Her smiling exit in a palanquin was seen by locals as a revival of a fading rural voting tradition.
