Bangladesh’s merchandise exports reached $17.04 billion in the first four months (July-October) of the current fiscal year of 2026-27, up 6% or around $960 million from $16.08 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to Bangladesh Bank data.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) generally releases export figures. However, the central bank provided the latest figures through a press release today (1 November).
The readymade garment sector was the main contributor to export growth during the period. Knitwear exports rose 7% year-on-year to $7.71 billion, while woven garment exports increased 4.8% to $6 billion.
Together, the two segments accounted for nearly 80% of total exports and contributed around 81% of the overall export growth.
Several other sectors also recorded notable growth.
Exports of jute and jute goods increased 23.8% to $383 million, leather and leather products rose 12.7% to $464 million, and chemical products grew 27.3% to $157 million.
Home textile and footwear exports also increased by 7.4% and 9.7%, respectively.
However, exports of agricultural products, frozen and live fish, and cotton and cotton products declined by 13.5%, 11%, and 10%, respectively.
The figures indicate continued growth in the country’s export earnings, alongside expansion in several non-RMG sectors. Sustaining this momentum will require improving product quality and competitiveness, expanding into new markets, and identifying and addressing barriers facing underperforming sectors.
