Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has urged newly appointed police and Ansar cadre officers to maintain strict political neutrality throughout their professional careers, stressing that political affiliations during student life must never influence their conduct in public service.
“Officers may have had political affiliations during their student days, but these must in no way be reflected in their professional lives,” he said.
He made the remarks today while addressing a briefing and introductory meeting with newly appointed 45th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Police and Ansar cadre officers at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The minister also called for the utmost caution and discretion in enforcing the law, warning officers against any form of abuse of authority.
“Under no circumstances should power be misused,” he cautioned, underscoring the importance of protecting the public image of the police force and maintaining public confidence through responsible and impartial conduct.
Congratulating the newly appointed officers, Ahmed said their foremost responsibility was to uphold law and order and ensure a secure environment conducive to the smooth functioning of the state, administration and development activities.
Emphasising discipline and professionalism, he instructed the officers to strictly abide by service rules and comply with lawful directives from their senior officials.
Describing the working environment of the police and Ansar forces as distinctively challenging and often confrontational, the minister said officers must demonstrate sound judgement, professionalism, intelligence and presence of mind when making decisions under pressure.
The meeting was chaired by Home Ministry Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury.
Inspector General of Police (in charge) and Additional IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain and Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud attended as special guests.
According to the ministry, 80 candidates were recommended for the BCS Police cadre and 25 for the BCS Ansar cadre in the 45th BCS examination.
Of them, 65 police officers and 19 Ansar officers formally joined the Ministry of Home Affairs on the morning of 1 November 2026.
