Police have sought a seven-day remand for Jerika Tasnim Disha, a friend of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Souri, in connection with his death.
Disha was taken into custody from Dhaka’s Kafrul area around 2am today (1 November) and subsequently shown arrested in the murder case filed by Tahsif’s family, confirmed Tongi River Police Outpost Inspector Firoz Uddin.
Firoz, also the case investigation officer, filed the remand petition this afternoon. The hearing is scheduled for 3pm at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain, confirmed Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon to The Business Standard.
According to the remand plea, CCTV camera footage showed Disha, 19, and Tahsif visiting Nest Restaurant and Bar in Uttara on the night of 27 October. They spent around an hour and a half there, accompanied by Tahsif’s close acquaintance Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, who has also been arrested in the case.
It said the footage also showed them visiting other locations, including a motorcycle garage. Investigators have also found evidence of phone communication between Disha and Tahsif.
The petition said Disha’s interrogation was necessary to uncover the circumstances surrounding Tahsif’s death, identify other suspects, recover evidence, determine the exact location of the killing, and cross-check her statements against those given by Dwip, who is currently on a four-day remand.
Earlier, investigators questioned Dwip about his movements with Tahsif on the night he went missing. According to investigation sources, Dwip provided information about the places they visited and the reasons for going there. Investigators reportedly found inconsistencies in his statements and later visited several locations based on the information he provided.
Police are now examining his earlier statements, the allegations in the murder case filed by Tahsif’s family, CCTV footage, and other evidence to establish what happened before his death and whether anyone else was involved.
The former air force officer went missing on the evening of 27 October after leaving home following a call from Dwip. His body was recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan on the afternoon of 28 October.
His father KM Enayetul Karim Helal filed the murder case against unidentified persons at Uttarkhan Police Station on the night of 30 October.
