Two crude bombs exploded in front of a convoy of the 11-party alliance in Khulna this afternoon (31 October), as it was heading towards a roadside rally in Phultala upazila as part of a Dhaka-Khulna-Kushtia long march.
The explosions occurred in front of the Shaheed Minar in the Phulbarigate area.
However, no casualties were reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the convoy was travelling from Khulna towards Phultala, where the alliance was scheduled to hold a roadside rally at Phultala Bazar before proceeding to Jashore.
After several vehicles had crossed Phulbarigate, two crude bombs exploded one after another on the road in front of the Shaheed Minar, before the remaining vehicles arrived. Another crude bomb was found unexploded at the scene.
The sudden blasts triggered panic among people standing on both sides of the road, forcing them to run in different directions. The situation returned to normal after police arrived.
Mohammad Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Khan Jahan Ali Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying police had recovered the unexploded device.
Authorities are working to identify those responsible, he said, adding that no one had filed a complaint with the police station by this evening.
