A total of 28 police personnel working at different police stations and units under the Khulna Range have been withdrawn from their duties over allegations of corruption and accepting unethical benefits beyond their salaries and allowances.
The decision was taken by the Khulna Range Deputy Inspector General’s (DIG) office today (30 October), Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Karim confirmed.
Those withdrawn include personnel ranging from cooks to sub-inspectors (SIs).
Of the 28 personnel, nine are from Khulna district, nine from Bagerhat, two from Jashore, three from Jhenaidah, four from Kushtia and one from Chuadanga.
Relevant sources said the action followed allegations of irregularities and acceptance of unethical benefits against police personnel working in different districts and units under the Khulna Range.
The list includes personnel from various police stations as well as traffic and detective branches.
Rezaul Karim said the government had a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, drugs and terrorism, prompting a clean-up drive within the police force.
He said unethical benefits taken by some police personnel created obstacles to maintaining law and order and building public confidence in the force.
The DIG added that the inspector general of police (IGP) had also instructed authorities to take strict action against personnel involved in such practices.
The ongoing action in the Khulna division is part of that initiative, he said.
