Three police personnel have been withdrawn from their police station and attached to the Chattogram District Police Lines over allegations of misappropriating 30,000 yaba pills seized in Satkania.
An internal police investigation is underway into the incident and verify the allegations against Sub-Inspector Mahbubul Islam and Constables Foyez Ahmed and Gazi Md Mohsin.
An order for their withdrawal was issued by the Chattogram District Superintendent of Police’s Office on Wednesday (28 October).
Chattogram District Police’s Additional SP (Public Relations) Mohammad Russel confirmed to The Business Standard that the SP had ordered the trio’s withdrawal from the police station and attachment to the police lines for administrative reasons.
However, he said, “Several media outlets have published reports regarding allegations of yaba misappropriation. The matter is under investigation. They were withdrawn in the interest of the investigation.”
According to police sources, a truck was intercepted in the Putibila area of Lohagara Upazila on the night of 24 October with the assistance of two informants.
The truck was subsequently taken to a CNG filling station in the Keranihat area of Satkania, where 30,000 yaba pills were reportedly found in three packets.
However, allegations have emerged that the seized yaba pills were misappropriated without being formally recorded.
Following reports published by several media outlets, the police personnel concerned were withdrawn from their posts.
