President’s planned visits to Chattogram, Rangamati and Bandarban have been cancelled due to ongoing unrest and an indefinite road blockade in Sajek Valley in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila.
According to the schedule, the president was due to visit Chattogram on 28 October, Rangamati on 29 October and Bandarban on 30 October.
Abul Kalam Md Lutfor Rahman, a protocol officer at the President’s Office, confirmed the cancellation to The Business Standard, saying the tour had been called off due to the recent situation in the hill areas.
During his planned visit to Chattogram, the president was scheduled to inspect the Old House and attend a reception. He was then due to spend the night at Chattogram Circuit House before travelling to Rangamati on 29 October to attend another reception.
Later that day, he was scheduled to travel to Nilgiri in Bandarban, where he would spend the night before visiting Keokradong on 30 October.
However, the entire three-district tour has been cancelled in view of the ongoing situation in Sajek.
