BNP leader Aliza Zaman submitted her nomination paper today (26 October) to contest the by-election for a reserved women’s seat-23 in parliament, following the resignation of party lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Misty earlier this month.
Returning Officer Moin Uddin Khan confirmed the submission to the Election Commission on the last day for filing nomination papers.
Aliza Zaman is a member of the BNP’s central executive committee and joint convener of the party’s Pirojpur district unit. She also serves as organising secretary of the BNP’s central women’s wing for the Barishal division.
According to the election schedule, nomination papers will be scrutinised tomorrow (27 October). Appeals against the scrutiny decisions may be filed on Wednesday (28 October), with their disposal scheduled for Thursday (29 October).
The deadline for withdrawal of candidacies is 1 November, while election symbols will be allotted on 2 November. The by-election is scheduled for 12 November.
The by-election was called following the resignation of BNP lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Misty on 1 October.
If Aliza Zaman is the only candidate, she will be elected unopposed.
