Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Shahadat Hossain has been appointed as the corporation’s full-time administrator under the Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Act, 2026.
The Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a notification today (25 October), signed by Deputy Secretary Jewel Rana on behalf of the president.
According to the notification, Shahadat will serve as administrator until a new city corporation is formed or further instructions are issued. During this period, he will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor under Section 4(3) of the amended law.
He will also receive the monthly honorarium and other allowances prescribed by the relevant rules.
Shahadat had challenged the results of the CCC election held on 27 January 2021, seeking their cancellation. On 1 October 2024, a court ruled in his favour and declared him the elected mayor. The verdict came after the July Uprising.
