Chief crime reporter of Dainik Amader Shomoy Shahjahan Akand Shuvo and his wife were mugged by two motorcycle-borne snatchers in the capital’s Shyamoli area this morning (24 October), leaving the woman with injured fingers.
The assailants snatched a vanity bag containing cash, a mobile phone, a bank debit card and a Metro Rail card from Shuvo’s wife before fleeing.
The incident occurred around 7:15am near the foot overbridge opposite Shyamoli Shishu Mela, Shuvo said. He has filed a written complaint with Mohammadpur Police Station.
Shuvo said he and his wife were travelling by battery-powered rickshaw from Azimpur to Kallyanpur to see her off on a bus bound for Kushtia for an urgent family matter.
When the rickshaw reached the road opposite Shyamoli Shishu Mela, two men on a motorcycle approached from behind and snatched the bag from his wife’s hand before fleeing towards Shyamoli.
Her fingers were injured as she tried to hold on to the bag, he added.
Shuvo said the snatchers escaped quickly, preventing them from being caught.
Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station, said police were examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the suspects.
He added that police were investigating the incident seriously.
