A fire erupted at a star hotel in Cox’s Bazar today (23 October), forcing around 300 tourists to flee to the nearby beach — just a week after a blaze at Tuptup Resort on Marine Drive killed 10 people.
The fire broke out around 5pm in the generator room on the ground floor of The Sea Princess, a hotel near Sugandha Point, said Syed Muhammad Morshed Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence.
A Fire Service unit was dispatched to the hotel after receiving the report of the fire, but hotel staff brought it under control before firefighters arrived, he added.

He added that Fire Service personnel later inspected the premises and declared the hotel safe.
“The fire is suspected to have originated from a short circuit in the generator. No one was injured,” the official said.
Abdul Kader, managing director of The Sea Princess, said the hotel had adequate firefighting arrangements and that the prompt response of its staff had prevented a major accident.
“All the tourists staying at the hotel are safe,” he said.
On 17 October, a fire at Tuptup Resto and Resort in Cox’s Bazar’s Inani killed 10 people and injured six.
