A Dhaka court has placed four people, including two Chinese nationals, on three-day remand in a case over the alleged embezzlement of around Tk11 crore by promising lucrative returns on online trading and block-trade share investments.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order this evening (23 October) following a hearing.
The accused are Ruhul Amin Biswas, 26; Sheikh Sanjida Mansur Sithi, 23; and Chinese nationals Chan Long Ji, 36, and Wang Xiaowei, 35.
Earlier, the investigation officer, Detective Branch (DB) Sub-Inspector Mrityunjay Pandit Mithun, sought seven days of remand for the four accused.
In the remand petition, the investigation officer said their interrogation was necessary to recover passwords for digital devices allegedly used in the fraud, analyse bank transactions, trace the flow of money, recover the allegedly embezzled funds and arrest absconding accomplices.
The court granted three days of remand after the hearing, prosecution Sub-Inspector Mahin Uddin confirmed.
Police arrested the four in separate drives in Adabor and the Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital on 22 October.
According to the case statement, complainant Md Abu Sadek received a proposal through WhatsApp to invest in the online stock market in exchange for lucrative returns.
He was subsequently directed to visit the websites cehbrachty.com and brachnw.com, where he was shown different investment packages and block-trade share opportunities. He was promised attractive daily profits in return for his investments, the complaint said.
Between 25 September 2025 and 26 January 2026, Sadek transferred money from several bank accounts belonging to his business to multiple accounts provided by the accused, according to the complaint.
He said he transferred a total of Tk11 crore. To gain his confidence, the accused allegedly paid him Tk10 lakh in returns.
When he later tried to withdraw his investment and profits, he was unable to contact the people concerned. Believing he had been defrauded, he filed a case with police on 5 May 2026.
During the investigation, police obtained information about a City Bank account at its Bashundhara branch held by a person named Fatin Mahdi.
Investigators said questioning the account holder revealed his connection with Ruhul Amin Biswas and the exchange of bank account information between them.
Police allege that Ruhul Amin and Sheikh Sanjida Mansur Sithi collected bank account details and associated email access from various people and passed them to Chinese nationals Chan Long Ji and Wang Xiaowei.
Investigators said the accounts were subsequently used to collect money from different individuals.
The investigation report records transactions totalling Tk8.92 crore through one account and other bank accounts. It also mentions a further Tk2.07 crore transferred to other accounts, bringing the total to around Tk11 crore.
