At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups in Brahmanbaria’s Sarail upazila on tonight (20 October) over a dispute about cutting grass for cattle.
The hour-long clash broke out around 7:30pm in the Boddapara area along the Sarail-Nasirnagar regional road, with both groups fighting under torchlight, police and local residents said.
The identities of the injured were not immediately known. They were receiving treatment locally.
According to police and residents, the dispute began in the morning when Alamgir, son of Ikin Ali of Boddapara, went to cut grass for his cattle from a plot of land in the village.
Faruk and Humayun, sons of Jaher Mia of the same village, allegedly beat him for cutting grass from their land.
Tensions between the two groups escalated, prompting a village arbitration meeting in the evening. An argument during the meeting led members of both sides to attack each other with locally made weapons.
The clash continued in the dark, with both groups chasing one another and throwing bricks and stones, spreading panic in the area.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Jahangir Alam, in charge of Sarail Circle, said the clash stemmed from a dispute over cutting grass for cattle.
Police rushed to the scene after receiving information and brought the situation under control, he said.
Tensions between the two groups remained high, and police were deployed at the scene to prevent further violence.
