A Munshiganj court today (19 October) sentenced a 60-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old daughter in 2015.
Judge Tehsin Iftekhar handed down the verdict in the presence of the convicted man, Ebadat Mir.
The court also fined him Tk1 lakh under the relevant provisions of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000.
According to the case statement, the offence took place at the Dakshin Charigaon Ashrayan centre in Louhajang upazila on 19 January 2015.
The victim’s mother was working at a garment factory in Ashulia at the time.
Locals later apprehended Ebadat and handed him over to the police.
Yunus Farazi, a neighbour, filed a case at Louhajang Police Station the same day.
The court delivered the verdict after recording testimony from seven witnesses in the case.
