Eight crude bomb-like objects were recovered from Jashore’s Shankarpur Bali Field area early today (16 October) after several people fled on sensing the presence of Special Response Battalion (SRB) members during a raid.
According to a press release issued by the SRB-6 media cell this evening, members of the force launched the operation around 1am following a tip-off that some people were planning subversive activities in the area.
Several people fled on sensing the force’s presence. During a subsequent search in the presence of locals, SRB-6 members found a packet containing eight objects resembling crude bombs, which had been left behind at the scene.
The recovered items were seized and handed over to Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station for legal action. A case has been filed against unidentified individuals in connection with the incident, the press release said.
Lieutenant Commander Naim Ul Haque, company commander of SRB-6’s CPC-3 Jashore Camp, said the force had received a tip-off that some people were planning subversive activities using crude bombs in the Shankarpur area.
He said the suspects fled over a wall when SRB-6 members launched the operation.
The eight objects were later found in a packet, he added.
The commander suspected the group might have been planning sabotage somewhere during the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.
He also said that SRB’s special patrols, checkpoints and surveillance were continuing to maintain law and order ahead of the festivities.
