A 40-year-old woman was killed after being run over by a passenger bus while crossing the road beneath the Tikatuli overbridge in Dhaka today (12 October).
The deceased was identified as Rina Rani Ghosh.
The accident occurred at around 12:45 pm when a Doel Paribahan bus ran over her while overtaking another bus, said Abu Bakkar, a sub-inspector at Wari Police Station.
Police recovered her body from the scene and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The bus was seized shortly after the accident, and its driver was detained, the police officer said.
Rina’s husband, Biswajit Ghosh, said the family originally hailed from Ibrahim Pur village in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria. They currently live in the Swamibagh area of KM Das Lane in Wari with their two sons.
Their younger son, Pithu Ghosh, studies at a school in Nawabpur. Rina was returning home after dropping him off when she was struck by the bus while crossing the road.
