A nationwide idea contest has been launched to encourage university students and energy-sector professionals to develop innovative solutions to help Bangladesh achieve its renewable energy and energy efficiency targets by 2030.
The contest, titled “Sfuron: In Search of Sustainable Energy Innovation”, seeks practical ideas to support the country’s energy transition, with winning participants receiving prizes and opportunities to present their proposals to development partners, investors and financing institutions.
According to a press release, the initiative is aligned with the National Renewable Energy Development Strategy Paper (RESP) 2026–2030, which sets a target of 10,450 megawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and aims to achieve 15% energy savings across households, industry and the commercial sector against a 2026 baseline.
The contest features two categories: renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The Renewable Energy category seeks ideas on solar and wind power, energy storage and grid modernisation.
The Energy Efficiency category welcomes proposals on clean cooking, energy-saving technologies and community initiatives.
University students must apply in teams of two, while energy-sector professionals can apply individually.
Applicants must submit a concept note and a pitch video of up to three minutes. Shortlisted candidates will present their ideas before a jury of experts.
Applications are open until 25 October. Unverified or fraudulent entries may be disqualified.
Winners will receive trophies, certificates and prizes, along with opportunities to present their ideas to development partners and investors.
Organised by the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources in cooperation with the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), the contest is being implemented by GIZ Bangladesh on behalf of
German Development Cooperation and the European Union.
Interested participants can register and submit their proposals through the contest website at https://seideacontest2026.sreda.gov.bd/.
