The fifth edition of the three-day Bangla Medical Expo began at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka today (8 October), with organisers promising a showcase of the latest medical technologies, products and innovations from around the world.
Running until 10 October, the Bangla Med Expo is expected to serve as a key platform for buying and selling medical, surgical, diagnostic and research laboratory equipment in Bangladesh, organisers said.
Positioning itself as a major hub for international procurement, the expo brings together scientists, dealers, distributors, importers, retailers and other key buyer groups under one roof.
According to organisers, China alone accounts for a $1.4 billion share of the country’s medical equipment and devices market. Manufacturers from India and Pakistan are also showing interest in the sector.
Stakeholders said Bangladesh depends largely on imports for medical equipment, and demand for modern instruments and biomedical devices is rising with the expansion of advanced hospitals and new diagnostic centres.
They said the exchange of technical knowledge, experience and equipment is vital to advancing healthcare, but that hospitals and diagnostic centres will also need skilled technologists to reap the benefits.
The expo features a wide range of specialised and international products across all healthcare and pharmaceutical categories.
The previous edition drew an overwhelmingly positive response from local and international participants, organisers said. They added that Bangladesh is fast emerging as an important market for medical and laboratory technology as the sector grows.
Organisers said the event offers local and foreign industry players a unique opportunity to meet, collaborate, exchange market insights and design ideas, and build valuable business relationships.
