The bodies of two Bangladeshi expatriates killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia were brought home today (8 October).
Abdul Karim and Khalid Ahmed, residents of Lamatalaq village in South Banigram Union of Kanaighat upazila, were killed in the Al-Khurmah area of Taif on 7 September while travelling to Jeddah airport to return to Bangladesh.
Their bodies arrived at Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport around noon and were handed over to their families. The government provided Tk35,000 to each family for burial expenses.
Four expatriates were killed in the accident, including Karim and Khalid.
Lokman Uddin, chairman of South Banigram Union Parishad, said the two had been living in Saudi Arabia for years to support their families.
The funeral prayers will be held this afternoon, followed by their burial in their home area.
Earlier in June, five Kanaighat expatriates were killed in a road accident in Qatar’s Al Shahaniya area.
Their bodies were repatriated to Sylhet on 30 June with financial assistance from the Bangladesh Wage Earners’ Welfare Board.
