Toyota plans to establish a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) manufacturing facility in Bangladesh, with work expected to begin in 2027 and full-scale production targeted for 2029.
A high-level delegation led by Toyota Tsusho Corporation Vice Chairman Ichiro Kashitani disclosed the plan during a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat today (6 October).
The delegation briefed the prime minister on the proposed manufacturing facility and Toyota’s broader plans to expand its operations and investment in Bangladesh.
Toyota Bangladesh is expected to begin work in 2027 to establish an HEV manufacturing industry at an economic zone in the country under the development vision “With Bangladesh, For Bangladesh”.
The delegation said full-scale production is expected to begin by 2029.
The initiative is expected to create jobs, support industrialisation, facilitate technology transfer and help develop skilled workers in Bangladesh.
Toyota also plans to expand its distribution network to all divisional cities to make its products and services more accessible across the country.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman welcomed Toyota’s plans to expand its investment and operations in Bangladesh.
He said the government was working to create a stable, competitive and investment-friendly environment for both domestic and foreign investors.
The prime minister also said the government was committed to providing foreign investors with necessary policy support, infrastructure and other facilities.
During the meeting, the delegation and the prime minister also discussed potential investment opportunities and Toyota’s long-term business plans in Bangladesh.
The company also expressed interest in contributing to human resource development, particularly by creating technical and vocational training opportunities for young people.
The initiative aims to develop skilled workers and build a workforce suited to emerging industries, according to the delegation.
The prime minister also highlighted opportunities in waste-to-energy and renewable energy and said the government would provide necessary support if Toyota Tsusho Corporation sought to invest in those sectors.
