Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-Uz-Zaman held separate bilateral meetings with senior military officials from Australia and the United States in Perth, Australia, yesterday (5 October).
The meetings were held on the sidelines of the Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition and Chief of Army Symposium 2026, according to a Bangladesh Army post on Facebook today (6 October).
General Waqar-Uz-Zaman met Australian Army Chief Lieutenant General Susan Coyle and Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) Lieutenant General Joel B Vowell separately.
During his meeting with Lieutenant General Susan Coyle, discussions focused on mutual military cooperation, training, capability development and welfare initiatives.
The Australian Army chief commended the Bangladesh Army’s modernisation efforts. Both sides also stressed the need to further expand training, exchange experiences and strengthen mutual cooperation.

In his meeting with Lieutenant General Joel B Vowell, discussions centred on enhancing cooperation and information sharing between the two armies.
The two sides also discussed the Disaster Response Exercise and Exchange (DREE) to strengthen disaster response preparedness.
The meeting also covered the introduction of training courses at the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) with funding from the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI).
They further discussed increasing the participation of US military personnel in courses at the National Defence College (NDC) and the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Bangladesh.
