The Special Response Battalion (SRB-2) today (5 October) detained a BNP leader in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area over extortion allegations.
The detainee is Mizanur Rahman Swapan, president of Ward 28 BNP unit under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.
Swapan was detained from the area in the afternoon and later handed over to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police, Noymul Hasan, additional deputy inspector general and commander of SRB-2, told The Business Standard.
“Swapan is on the police list of extortionists. We detained him and handed him over to the police. The police station can provide further details,” he said.
Several attempts to contact the officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station for comments went unanswered.
