The deceased was identified as Mohammad Rana, 35.
According to preliminary police information and locals, Rana entered the house of Mohammad Hanif in Gazipura Westpara around 5am and was detained on suspicion of theft.
He was beaten by four to five tenants, including the house manager, according to locals.
