A fire broke out in an abandoned Bangladesh Railway coach in the Banglabazar area of the capital’s Sadarghat this afternoon (2 October).
The blaze broke out around 5:30pm opposite Rashid Building. Three units from two fire stations rushed to the scene and began working to bring it under control.
Monem Billah, senior station officer of the Fire Service’s Bandar Station, told The Business Standard that the blaze was brought under control at around 6:50pm after nearly an hour of efforts.
The fire service initially suspected that discarded bidi or cigarette remnants left by local drug users may have sparked the fire.
No major damage has been reported and the blaze is now under control, Monem said.
An investigation will determine the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage, he added.
