The Chattogram Port Authority has extended the transition period for the full automation of payments for Consignee Bill for Container, allowing port users to continue using pay orders and bank revolving accounts until 31 October.
From 1 November, all Consignee Bill for Container payments will have to be made online through banking channels. Pay orders and payments through bank revolving accounts will no longer be accepted for these bills from that date.
The authority announced the extension in a notice signed by Syed Refayet Hamim, secretary (additional charge) of the Chattogram Port Authority yesterday (30 September), following a request from the Chattogram Customs Agents Association.
The extension came after C&F agents and other port users raised concerns over technical issues with the port’s online payment system and sought a temporary dual-payment arrangement.
According to the notice, existing payment methods will remain available alongside online banking until 31 October, giving users more time to shift to the digital system.
The port authority said the move is aimed at speeding up, modernising and simplifying its service operations.
It also said technical work to connect Sonali Bank’s online gateway with the Chattogram Port’s online system has been completed.
As a result, port users will be able to pay Chattogram Port bills online through Sonali Bank’s online gateway.
The authority urged all C&F agents, consignees, and other port users to complete the necessary preparations and ensure that relevant bills are paid through online banking within the stipulated timeframe.
