State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said a Tk 100-crore project will be undertaken to construct paved roads along the 278-kilometer border of Kurigram, develop infrastructure and ensure safe drinking water supply in char areas.
“In addition to this, a special development package worth Tk 100 crore would be implemented to resolve the crisis of safe drinking water in different upazilas across the Kurigram district,” he said.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a joint meeting of the district law and order committee and district development coordination committee, held at the deputy commissioner’s conference room in Kurigram today, said a PID press release.
Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Annapurna Debnath presided over the event.

Addressing poverty alleviation in Kurigram and the need to prepare the youth for overseas employment, he emphasized the importance of learning foreign languages to make young people economically self-reliant and competitive in the international job market.
The state minister affirmed the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of the neglected populations residing on the approximately 450 chars (river islands) of Kurigram district.
“Priority will be given to developing education, healthcare, and communication infrastructure in these char areas,” he said.
He further announced that a special development package worth Tk 100 crore would be implemented to resolve the crisis of safe drinking water across the district.
“Of this amount, allocations of Tk 50 crore for the supply of potable water in Kurigram Sadar, Rajarhat, and Phulbari Upazilas, and another Tk 50 crore for Nageshwari and Bhurungamari Upazilas, will be implemented,” he said.
Dr Atiqur Rahman Mojahid MP (Kurigram-2), Barrister Mahbubul Alam Salehi MP (Kurigram-3), Kurigram Superintendent of Police Khandaker Fazle Rabbi, District Council Administrator Sohel Hasnine Kaikobad, District BNP Convener Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Senior Joint Convener Professor Shafiqul Islam Bebu and Public Prosecutor Advocate Bazlur Rashid, among others, addressed the event.
