Tensions escalated into clashes, vandalism and arson between hawkers and law enforcement agencies during a footpath eviction drive in the Mirpur-10 area of the capital today (30 September).
At least three city corporation garbage trucks were set on fire during the incident, while a police vehicle and an excavator were vandalised. Several hawkers also allegedly attacked journalists who went to the area to cover the incident. A vehicle belonging to a private television channel was vandalised, while several journalists were allegedly harassed and confronted by hawkers at the scene.
