Police in Cumilla have detained a further 379 people in a crackdown on teenage gangs and youths in different parts of the district.
The operation was conducted from 7pm yesterday (29 September) until midnight, Cumilla Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfur Rahman confirmed this morning (30 September).
Police said the operation targeted identified areas affected by teenage gangs, gathering spots and crime-prone areas. Senior district police officials also took part in the operation.
Lutfur Rahman said authorities were screening the 379 detainees to determine whether they were involved in any criminal activities.
“After the screening, legal action will be taken against those found to have been involved in criminal activities,” he said.
“District police are taking a firm stance against juvenile crime,” he added.
The latest operation follows three previous drives in which 1,294 people were detained across 18 police stations, including those in Cumilla metropolitan area.
