‘Will remove bricks of police station if any of my activists are attacked’: N’ganj NCP leader

Narayanganj district National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Jubayer Sardar has threatened to “remove the bricks” of a police station if any of his party activists are attacked and police fail to take action.

“If they lay a hand on even one of my leaders or activists, I will take a life for a life. If they attack any of my activists again, I will remove the bricks of the police station,” Jubayer was heard saying in a video that has circulated on social media.

The remarks were made last night (28 September) in front of the office of the officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station. The video began circulating on social media from this afternoon.

Jubayer and around 30-40 NCP leaders and activists had gathered at the police station to file a case over an alleged attack on NCP district joint organising secretary Towhidul Islam Towhid in Sadar upazila’s Baktabali area yesterday.

In the video, Jubayer can be seen addressing party activists in front of the OC’s office, while the activists can be heard chanting slogans.

Asked about his remarks, Jubayer said BNP activists from Baktabali Union had attacked his party activists last afternoon, leaving one NCP leader with a head injury.

“A large number of our leaders and activists gathered in front of the police station after the incident. The situation was becoming difficult to control. I made those remarks to calm the activists,” he said.

“I told them that if our activists are attacked, there would be a life for a life. If our activists are attacked again and the police fail to take action, the bricks of the police station would be removed,” he added.

The situation subsequently calmed down, Jubayer said.

Police have since accepted a case over the alleged attack, naming 16 people, he said, adding that no accused had been arrested yet.

“We demand the immediate arrest of those involved in the incident,” he said.

Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tareq Al Mehedi said police were looking into Jubayer’s remarks.

“We are examining the matter of his statement,” he said.
