Police have arrested four more people in connection with an attack, vandalism and attempted occupation of a house in the Shyamoli Housing area of Adabor, Dhaka. Two of them were shot during the operation.
The four were arrested during a raid around 2:30am today (29 September) from an open area beside a canal behind the fairground near the Nabodoy Housing fresh market, said police.
The arrestees are Rajib Hawladar, 30, Sagar alias Chhoto Bigar, 24, Shakib, 23, and Rashed, 24. Rajib and Sagar sustained gunshot injuries to their legs.
Mohammadpur Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Md Jewel Rana confirmed the matter.
He said police conducted the raid at night to arrest those involved in the attack on the house in Shyamoli Housing.
During the operation, police tried to arrest 7-8 suspects at the scene. The suspects attacked police with machetes, prompting officers to open fire in self-defence. Two of the suspects were shot and later arrested along with two others.
Police recovered steel machetes, a samurai sword, and a kiris from the arrestees. The two injured suspects were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Jewel Rana said Sagar has eight cases filed against him with Adabor and Mohammadpur police stations. Rajib is the accused No 1 in the case over the killing of Babu in Mohammadpur. The other two have five cases each against them.
The incident took place around 6:30am on Saturday (26 September) in the Shyamoli Housing area, when a group allegedly armed with machetes, cleavers and a pistol attempted to reoccupy the house.
CCTV footage obtained by The Business Standard showed two men striking the gate with machetes before another threw a brick at a camera. The attackers then damaged two CCTV cameras and smashed two second-floor windows.
The victim later filed a case with Adabor Police Station.
A total of 10 people have so far been arrested in the case. Of them, nine were arrested by police and one by SRB.
