Phones of 27 held at Jasad office to undergo forensic tests: Home minister

Mobile phones of 27 people detained from the central office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) in Dhaka’s Gulistan will undergo forensic examination, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said today (27 September).

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat, the home minister said the phones of those kept in custody would undergo forensic tests and authorities would investigate other aspects of the case.

“If any evidence is found of their involvement in acts of sabotage, cases will be filed against them,” he added.

Police raided the office yesterday and detained around 280-300 people. Meanwhile, police released 249 today, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

However, the minister said 250 were released and 27 were kept in custody for further questioning while the others were released.

Salahuddin further said, “Political parties do not need permission to hold discussions at their offices. However, intelligence reports indicated that some leaders and activists of the banned Awami League had gathered at the Jasad office and were planning acts of sabotage.”

The minister also said the operation was not conducted with the intention of harassing anyone.
