Bryce Dallas got candid about her Black Mirror experience.
Bryce first entered the world of social media in 2015, and shortly after that she starred in the iconic Black Mirror’s Nosedive episode.
In a recent interview with People Magazine, Bryce revealed that being part of the show was “really meaningful.”
The Jurassic World star also revealed that her costar, Chris Pratt encouraged her to get on social media and told her that it was “time”
“I was a holdout for a long time,” the actress added.
She went on to say, “But then it was very helpful [in preparing for the Black Mirror role] because I remember having a little bit of — I was like, ‘What do I put as my descriptor for who I am? Who am I?’”
Adding, “It leads you down a bit of an existential rabbit hole. And it all comes down to, how healthy is it for us to be aware of being perceived?”
“You know, like spotlight syndrome, where we all think everybody is looking at us.”
“Well, social media did kind of shift that, because people sort of are [looking],” Bryce added further.
It is worth noting here that Bryce has two children with partner Seth Gabel, 19-year-old son, Theodore Norman Howard Gabel, and 14-year-old daughter, Beatrice Jean Howard Gabel.
The Hollywood actress also revealed how the episode helped her in starting a conversation with her kids about social media, saying, “I felt like I had a really amazing advantage as a parent.”
She noted, “My kids are 19 and 14, and before there was any conversation about social media, I was like, ‘Mommy has something to show you.’ So the episode did a lot of the work for me.”
However, her children had a “very visceral reaction” after watching “their own mother” as part of the chilling Black Mirror story.
Speaking about what the show explores, the actress also noted the co-showrunner Charlie Brooker’s vision for the future. “Black Mirror does this in some way, shape or form with all of their episodes. [Co-showrunner] Charlie Brooker is a futurist, and he is thinking about what is potentially ahead. And stories are really good at prepping us collectively, getting us thinking about things, so that when the time comes, we can make a choice that hopefully leads to thriving.”
Moreover, Bryce shared an unusual practice which she learnt from a filmmaking teacher, Joan Scheckel “It’s really weird, it’s a little esoteric.”
“I tap my feet, and I try to connect to the waters that are rushing underneath the crust of the Earth. Literally. I just try to get centered and connect a little bit to just the power of the core of the Earth,” Bryce added.
The black mirror actress described that when she feels “super vulnerable,” she has to “connect with something way bigger than” her.
“How about the waters? Deep, deep, deep, deep, deep in this planet.”
“I know, that’s so weird. I do that before a take [on set] or something, too,” the actress, 45, further added.
